The City of Marshall Celebrates Welcoming Week

Community members are invited to join together and honor the spirt of unity

Marshall, MN - The City of Marshall is proud to announce our community is joining others nationwide in celebrating Welcoming Week, September 10 – 19, 2021. Our community’s success depends on making sure that all City of Marshall residents feel welcome here. Today, new residents are a vital part of all communities, bringing fresh perspectives and new ideas, starting businesses, and contributing to the vibrant diversity that we all value.

“Welcoming Week is an opportunity for our community to show how much we value each and every member’s contribution to our city,” said Robert J. Byrnes, Mayor of Marshall. “By working together, we can achieve a more prosperous community where diverse people from around the world feel valued and want to put down roots.”

During Welcoming Week, the City of Marshall invites all residents to join this movement by renewing our commitment to our core values and taking action in the spirit of welcoming. Under the theme of “Belonging Begins With Us”, the City of Marshall Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Commission, in partnership with the YMCA, will be hosting an event to join together all community members on September 18, from 11:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the YMCA. The event is free for all to attend and will include a children’s carnival, bucket truck rides, music, an interactive art piece and more.

“It is exciting to be a part of Marshall’s Welcoming Week, a nationwide celebration that addresses the importance of being a good neighbor and providing an inclusive community to our new and long-time community residents,” said Michele Knife Sterner, DEI Commission member. “From the Dakota welcoming new people, to the establishment of the City of Marshall, our community has embraced and provided a home to people from all over the United States and the globe to live and call Marshall home.”

Regardless of where someone is born or what they look like, all City of Marshall residents can be united in an effort to build a stronger community. By recognizing the contributions that each member makes to create a vibrant culture and a growing economy, the City of Marshall will have a more prosperous and inclusive community to all who call it home.
