SUMP PUMP DISCHARGE IN THE CITY OF MARSHALL
Because of the wet fall conditions, groundwater levels in the city are abnormally high and sump pumps are operating more than usual for this time of year.
If your sump pump is discharging onto the street and/or sidewalk and because of the extremely cold weather, the water being discharged from your sump pump may be freezing on the street/sidewalk and creating hazardous conditions for pedestrians, vehicles and mail delivery.
For the safety of all, city residents are requested to remove their sump pump discharge from any part of the public right-of-way, including driveways, streets and sidewalks.
You may discharge your sump pump to any portion of your yard ensuring that the water does not run onto the sidewalk, driveways and/or street or neighboring property creating icy conditions.
The City has a provision for allowing the sump pump to be discharged, by permit, to the sanitary sewer system during the winter months from October 31-April 1.
If you need any assistance or have any questions, please call 507-537-6773.
Thank you for your cooperation.
