Due to recent precipitation events and saturated soils, the City of Marshall Wastewater Treatment Plant has been receiving extremely high inflows from the sanitary sewer collection system. The City of Marshall would like to remind everyone that it is unlawful to discharge sump pumps, foundation drains, or any other ground water or surface water to the sanitary sewer system. These “clean water” connections overwhelm our collection system and our treatment plant. When the collection system is overwhelmed it may result in sanitary sewer backups into basements. When the treatment plant is overwhelmed it may result in the discharge of untreated sewage into the Redwood River. Storm water must be discharged to your yard or street and it is important that all residents and businesses do their part. Please contact Public Works at 537-6773 or the Wastewater Treatment Facility at 537-6776 if you have questions or concerns.
