Because of the extreme snow cover and potential for excessive moisture, the excess sump pump flows may cause backups of the sanitary sewer into homes.
It is unlawful to discharge sump pumps, foundation drains or any other ground water or surface water into the City of Marshall sanitary sewer during the period of April 1st to October 31st.
During the period of November 1st to March 31st,discharge of storm water to the sanitary sewer may be done by Annual Permit only.
This is a violation and greatly increases chances of Sanitary Sewer backups into homes.
This water does not need to be treated and the excess water may cause maximum flow conditions and extra treatment expense at the Wastewater Treatment Facility.
Storm water should be discharged to your yard or preferably to the street curbs.
Any questions can be directed to the Wastewater Treatment Facility at 507-537-6776, or The City of Marshall Public Works Department at 507-537-6773.
