An EDA internship consists of multiple training opportunities and practical, hands-on experience in the areas of business retention and expansion (economic development), community development, public administration (working with Boards and Commissions to promote downtown and community development), public relations/communications, and finance and marketing.

Internship Dates:  Approximately 05/15/19 to 08/15/19

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Training will be provided)

  1. Assist with development, updates and implementation of community plans and strategies for promoting economic development activities within the community.
  2. Develop and conduct surveys, compile results, prepare reports with recommendations on a variety of development programs and projects. Prepare requested and required reports, including but not limited to area employment levels, tax base, job creation, etc.
  3. Develop, coordinate and promote economic development marketing efforts within the community to recruit additional workforce and families.
  4. Update and maintain the current information on availability of sites and buildings, employment data, tax information, utility information, and other information useful to relocating or expanding businesses.
  5. Assist the EDA Director with various economic development projects including, but not limited to: business retention and expansion, business recruitment, workforce development, downtown redevelopment and more.
  6. Performs related duties as required.
  7. Attendance is an essential function of this position.


1. Currently enrolled at a college, university, or vocational-technical program. This includes students in undergraduate and graduate programs.

2. Begin the internship with sophomore standing or above. Students attending a vocational-technical school must have completed the first year of a program (at least 9 months) by the beginning of the internship.

Up to 20 hours per week (flexible work week schedule)

Office hours are typically 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with some early morning & evening meetings.
