School Officer

School Officer
The Marshall Police Department was selected as one of nine departments visited for having best practices for their School Resource Officer Program (SRO) by the COPS Office. We were the only Minnesota department and distinctly the smallest. As a consequence of this inclustion, Officer Jim Marshall has been requested to be a speaker at the National Crime Prevention Council Conference in Washington D.C. The following links provided include the results of this study.

Hi, from Officer VanLeeuwe! I have been a police officer for the City of Marshall since 1995 and have been assigned as the School Resource Officer since April of 2006. As the resource officer, I handle most of the police related incidents that occur within the schools. This includes, but is not limited to, theft reports, disorderly conduct and truancy issues. In addition, I spend time with students throughout the school and I serve as a classroom speaker on a wide variety of topics. I have facilitated the D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) program to our 5th grade classes since 1998. My offices are located in the high school and middle school; however, I am accessible to all of the schools. It has been rewarding to work with the students and watch them mature. I look forward to the challenge, opportunity and growth that come with my position as the School Resource Officer. Should you have questions or concerns, I can be reached at 507-537-7000.

Be an example of healthy choices and stay safe! Officer VanLeeuwe
